Inspirational Guide: Making the Most of Small Art

Tiny art is so fun to buy!  It’s affordable, so cute, and it can fit just about anywhere.

One of my favorite aspects of it is that no matter how little, small art can still have a big impact – but it all depends on how you choose to display it.

Original sketches are a great way to start a collection of tiny art pieces!

You don’t want a tiny-but-mighty piece of artwork to get overwhelmed and swallowed up by the rest of the décor around it.  And, for obvious reasons, it cannot be the statement piece that defines the room.  You must be a little bit strategic in where you place your tiny gems, so as to bring just the right amount of attention to it.  It should be the “cherry on top” of your overall décor!

Here are some helpful tips to keep in mind when finding just the right place for your beloved mini art pieces:

1. It must FIT somewhere: A unique and small slice of wall.  Filling that gap in your gallery wall display.  Above a desk or vanity.  Between two windows. Etc.

2. Draw attention to it by placing it in a statement frame with a larger mat or even try mounting it on a patterned background. (Check out my tiny owls framed collection for inspiration!)

3. Don’t overwhelm it.  If displayed alongside other pieces, make sure they tastefully complement each other, instead of taking away or overwhelming from each other.

4. Be sure the piece is well lit.  Don’t let it hide in a dark corner.  Make sure it gets some lovely natural light, or that it is placed strategically under some indirect lighting if it’s a darker room.

5. Consider alternatives to hanging it on the wall!  Maybe it can rest on an entryway hutch, or it can hang out beside some fun décor pieces or houseplants on a picture shelf.  Even nestled on a decorative bookshelf can be a great way to highlight small art!

I hope this helps get some ideas flowing for how to display smaller art pieces in your own home!  Have you collected any mini paintings?  How do you display them?
